Visit to Amish County, Lancaster

Sep 15, 2018

They say that unplanned trips are the most beautiful ones. Our trip to ‘The Amish House and farm” at Lancaster was one of such kind. It was a 2 hour drive from our place. Our first road trip with Ahaan.

It was a sunny day, last few days of summer before we were surrounded by the cold wind and crisp leaves of autumn. We started around 9 am. Ahaan started his nap after few mins of drive for almost 2 hrs.

Once we enter the Lancaster county we could feel the vibes, the lush green lawns, corn fields, cattles, horse carts. Our first stop was ‘The Amish farm and house’ , which shows the culture and lifestyle of the Amish People. We had our brunch from the Starbucks just opposite to the entrance and Ahaan had his banana purée, though he was more interested in frappuccino😂.

If you wonder what is so special with the Amish community, The Amish (Pennsylvania German) are a group of traditionalist Christian church fellowships with Swiss German Anabaptist origins. They are known for simple living , plain dress, and reluctance to adopt many conveniences of modern technology.

Another interesting thing is, the Amish do not usually educate their children past the eighth grade, they believe that the primary knowledge is sufficient to prepare one for the Amish lifestyle. In many communities, the Amish operate their own schools, typically one room schoolhouses with teachers from the Amish community.

Ahaan was so happy seeing all the farm animals in which goat being his favorite😊. What we enjoyed the most was the walk through corn maze.
