Homemade safari birthday cake

I was a little skeptical about baking a cake for my baby’s first birthday as it was my first time, but I am super happy that it came out really well. All thanks to the youtube tutorials. I was looking for a jungle themed cake and after stalking few designs on pininterest and youtube I came up with this design.

The base is a choclate cake and the fondant is a vannilla flavored one.

Sharing the links of some of the materials required for making the cake which i bought online and tutorials i referred, which may help you.

🌼You may buy food colour gel here, only drawback i found is that it doesn’t have orange colour. You may mix yellow and a little bit of red to get orange if you want.

🌼Fondant i used here. Tutorial on how to colour and roll the fondant here.

🌼Fondant mold for animal figures, grass and tree here. Tutorial on how to make figures from the mold here.

🌼Fondant tool kit here, i am sorted for the whole life I guess😁. Literally the kit has everything needed to make fondant shapes including alphabets, numbers and symbol molds

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups sugar
3/4 cups cocoa
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup coffee
1/2 cup oil
2 eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Mix together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Set aside. In another bowl, mix the oil, eggs, coffee, vanilla and buttermilk.

Dump the wet ingredients into the dry while mixing at low speed. Increase speed to medium and beat for about 2 minutes. Scrape the bowl and beat again for another minute.

Pour the batter into the pan. This batter will be very thin. Don’t worry it will bake up beautifully.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, depending on your oven, or just until the tops are springy or a cake tester comes out clean.

Let the cake cool down completely before you start the fondant layering. I baked the cake at night and did the decoration next morning.

Hope this will help you in some way. Let me know if you try this recipe.

Happy baking😊
